UNC Wilmington MARBIONC Building

Wilmington, North Carolina

The new 72,000 square foot research laboratory facility is the on UNC Wilmington’s millennial CREST Research Park campus. The complex is a result of a public-private partnership venture. It connects the university’s Center for Marine Science program with business focused on biotechnology, environmental science and research and development.

The MARBIONC building is located directly on the Intracoastal waterway and bordered by wood areas. Using stormwater control methods we adjust for high water tables and provide stormwater measures which address quality and quantity. The design included the use of native plant species, wetland restoration and native meadow plant material. Additionally, Surface also provided small area master planning, conceptual design, road and parking layout, motor court, entry plaza, outdoor classroom, and dining terrace.
