The Duke University Interprofessional Education & Care project is a multistory, $41 million, 100,000 GSF education building sited in between the current School of Nursing and the Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery, with a pedestrian bridge connecting the new School of Nursing program areas with the old building. Surface 678 is providing landscape improvements, planting design and hardscape design, including the main pedestrian connection between the greenspace and Trent Drive. An outdoor plaza attached to the main pedestrian connection leads into a glass lobby, blending the indoors with the outdoors. The pedestrian-way path is defined by the landscape of evergreen plantings, creating pockets that outline the sweeps of the pathway. The pathway and connection design are intended to mimic tendons and muscles, inspired by the physical and occupational therapy programs that will be occupying the building in addition to the School of Nursing.
