Weatherspoon Art Museum
Surface 678 transformed the previously underutilized courtyard into an inviting entrance and outdoor sculpture area, adding outdoor exhibit and event space to the Museum. A raised Cor-ten steel planting bed contoured in a wave-like form straddles the existing courtyard wall, visually connecting visitors from the sidewalk into the gallery. A stylized birch grove provides dappled shade and helps subdivide the courtyard into small sculpture settings, a simple but elegant environment for art.
