Surface 678 - GlaxoSmithKline

As winners of a design competition to replace a reflecting pool originally designed in the early 1970’s by master architect Paul Rudolf, our firm approached site with simplicity similar to the original design. The new forecourt to the Elion Hitchings Building improves wayfinding for visitors and creates a more interactive entry sequence. Bridge-like walkways divide the space into a series of faceted lawn panels edged by low concrete walls whose heights vary in correspondence with tilted planes of grass. A linear promenade and a grove of trees incorporate seating and overlook the court.
