Washington Duke Inn

Durham, North Carolina

A highly complex series of additions to both the hotel, conference and golf areas of the inn required overgrown landscapes, disproportionate parking to be addressed and additional programmable exterior space to be considered. The design largely respects the established organization of hotel entry, service and golf entry, but improves the experience of arrival for the hotel and golf visitors. A cross parking lot axis helps conference attendees find their destination, while addressing a lack of parking on the west side of the facility. At several places and at pertinent architectural places, exterior space was added to enhance the facilities rentable space. These spaces were designed to integrate tents and caterers.
